With a booming population of 181,000 and commonly referred to as the “Heart of the Commonwealth of Central Massachusetts, Worcester has become the second most populous city in New England, only second to Boston. Worcester was incorporated as a town in 1722 and soon after gained it’s city hood in 1848. Since it’s founding its not only been a manufacturing hub but also a city full of immigrants, including Irish, French, Swedish, Polish, Italian, Greek, Turkish, and Armenian.

With its roots in manufacturing, Worcester has continued to grow as a city, becoming more diverse throughout the years. It’s now the home of seven colleges and major event centers and performance halls such as the DCU Center, Mechanics Hall, and the Hanover Theater. It also has the premier dining in Central Massachusetts, with Shrewsbury Street referred to as its “little Italy.” The Canal District has also become a hot spot for the bar and restaurant scene.

Not only does it have restaurants, but the arts/education establishments have grown as well. The Worcester Art Museum is the second largest museum in New England, and has been the host of many notable exhibits. The Higgins Armory Museum has also been one of the premier museums in the area.
